Shade Perennials

Our greenhouses carry an excellent arrangement of shade perennials that  can take your shady dark space to a vibrant paradise. We offer the classic shade perennials such as hostas and ferns along with astilbe, lungwort, coral bells, and so much more.

Although the shade garden can be one of the most difficult to bring to life, our expert staff is there to assist you in choosing perennials that suit your style and theme.

Full Sun Perennials

We offer a wide variety of perennials that will survive not only the hot, sunny summers but also the cold, frigid winters that our landscapes endure. At our nursery, you will find perennials to create year-round color in your garden, from creeping phlox to coneflowers and red hot pokers to sedum. Our collection is carefully selected to ensure that your garden remains vibrant and thriving through every season. Whether you're looking to add bold splashes of color, delicate ground covers, or hardy plants that can withstand the elements, we have the perfect perennials to meet your needs. Visit us to explore our extensive range and get expert advice on choosing and caring for the best plants to enhance your landscapes.

Below are some tips for designing your perennial garden:

  • Select plants that thrive in full sun, such as coneflowers, daylilies, black-eyed Susans, lavender, and sedum.
  • Arrange plants according to their mature height and spread. Taller plants should be placed at the back or center, with shorter plants in front.
  • Create visual interest by layering plants of different heights and grouping them in odd numbers (threes, fives) for a more natural look.
  •  Apply a layer of mulch to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
  • Choose plants that bloom at different times of the year to ensure continuous color. Include plants with interesting foliage, seed heads, or bark for off-season interest.

Native Landscaping

Native perennials have evolved to thrive in the local climate, providing year-round beauty and sustainability. These plants are not only hardy but also play a crucial role in supporting local wildlife, attracting beneficial pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds.

Benefits of Native Perennials:

Sustainability: Native plants are well-adapted to the local environment, requiring less water and maintenance compared to non-native species.

Wildlife Support: By planting native perennials, you create a natural habitat that supports a diverse range of wildlife, including essential pollinators.

Environmental Health: These plants help improve soil health, reduce erosion, and promote biodiversity.

Our Selection Typically Includes:

Deer Resistant Perennial

Although deer are beautiful to see outside in the landscape, they can be aggressive herbivores eating all your beautiful perennials and young trees. We carry a selection of deer resistant plants to deter our hungry friends from your gardens.

Deer tend to stay away from plants with the following characteristics:

  • bitter leaves
  • thorny plants (although roses are one of their favorite foods)
  • strong smell
  • thick and fuzzy leaves

In our perennial houses, you can find a wide range of plants that are deer resistant. We recomend looking for columbine, lavendar, coreopsis, veronica, irises, lamb's ear, catmint, baptisia, peonies, and bleeding hearts.

Tree Planting Guide

Proper Tree Planting is Essential to supporting your new trees growth. Follow these Key steps to Ensure a Happy Tree.

Printable Planting Guide

1. Dig the Hole

Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the root ball and as deep or just a couple of inches shallower. Your hole should have slanted sides, resembling a bowl.

3. Position  Tree

Set the tree into the hole and ensure that the root flare is even with the soil line or slightly above. Then you will need to confirm that the trees trunk is straight. Be sure to observe this from many angles.

5. Mulch

Mulch around the base of the tree at a depth of approximately 4 in deep. When mulching DO NOT PILE MULCH ALONG THE TRUNK. Mulch should be brushed away from the trunk, leaving 2-3 inches of breathing room.

2. Remove Wraps

Remove any type of wrapping around the rootball, including burlap or pots. After exposing the rootball, ensure that no roots are crossing over the trunk flare.

4. Backfill

Slowly pour some of the soil that you removed earlier back around the rootball. Ensure that the tree is stabilized. Then pack the rest of the soil in around the rootball so as to remove any large air holes around the roots.

6. Water and Care

Once your tree is planted and mulched, water thoroughly. Depending on the time of year that you plant your tree, you will have to adjust your watering to provide adequate moisture.
